Content Literacy
Students will effectively apply core academic content knowledge and skills (including National and State Content Standards) to real-world situations and problems.
Visual Aids
The Visual Aids project develops Content Literacy in learners in Algebra 1. Learners focus on "the most important ideas in Algebra" and develop posters that name and illustrate these ideas in clear, visually engaging ways. These ideas, including the properties of real numbers, guide most of the mathematical work in Algebra 1.
The poster to the left, "Identity Property of Addition" by Jessica Lambert, is a good example. There is an eye-catching illustration, a title, an example with numbers, and an explanation with words. By reading the poster, it's easy to understand what the Identity Property is and how it works.
In addition to the poster product, learners create a presentation in which they orally explain the content for their visual aid and describe choices they made in creating the product.

CST RTQ Problems
This project was about creating videos on how to solve CST Released Test Questions.
What's That Function?
The "What's That Function" project was about functions and relations, quadratic functions, and rational expressions. Learners designed a game show in which contestants had to do these kinds of math problems in the context of "minigames." The picture above is one of the team's "prototypes," a game in which contestants had to jump and grab the correct answer. I thought it was wonderful that at Sacramento New Tech, we have factored polynomials on the wall, but not graffiti!
